As you have probably already heard, we are planning to host an Anime Kaigi 2011. Unfortunately we have still not been able to confirm a date for next year's event. We ran into several difficulties post-con this year, but we've overcome the majority of them.

We actually have 'tentatively confirmed' our date with the du Bois Center, but we can't quite announce this date until it is official. Here's what we know and can share with you so far:

- We will not be able to afford moving to the only other convention center in town (that's large enough for Anime Kaigi). It would simply cost WAY too much! (at least 6x-7x what we would pay for the current convention center).

- Unfortunately, we won't be able to get a date that is outside of summer, while still having access to the meeting rooms that we need for the convention (a few of the major rooms are not available during the school year).

- The Cardinals have training for the last 6 weeks or so of summer, and they use up a few of the critical rooms also.

- We would like to avoid scheduling anywhere near PCC next year, so that eliminates a good chunk of the beginning of summer as well.

- This leaves us with the hottest part of summer for Anime Kaigi, and the facility does not have air conditioning. We will be taking measures this year to cool down the Peaks (Vendor Hall) room, such as purchasing or renting portable A/C units. We may be able to get the blinds closed this year, and keep the large door open instead of the smaller one. We know how miserable it was in 2010, and we'd like to avoid that again.

- The GREAT news about having our convention around this time, is that it will not be conflicting with any other conventions in the immediate area. Our tentative dates land us on a weekend that is not shared by any other major conventions in the USA. Lastly, it will be much cooler in Flagstaff during our convention than it will be in any other part of the state.

All that being said, we will be able to confirm and announce the dates for Anime Kaigi 2011 within the next 30 days. In the meantime, we have already started planning the basics of the event, and we'll be starting the major plannning shortly. Stay tuned!

Yes I cant wait for Kaigi 2011!

(I dont know if the IMs are down due to site reconstruction so i will just post this here)

I work for a sound company in flagstaff and i think ive convinced my boss to kinda sponser Kaigi 2011.My boss says he is interested and would like to know the date for next year so he could put it in his calendar. We could provide equipment for any dances, concerts, or panels. We also have a few projecters that you could use for the viewing rooms or any other application that needed them. Right now everything concerning this is going through me but if you would like to contact my boss you can at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or (928) 699-7905. Just tell him that Josh told you to call about the anime covention next year. If you would like to check out the website it is located at (peaksaudio.com). I am looking forward to hopefully working with everyone at Kaigi 2011 and would appreciate if you could reply or message me if your interested.

Thank You,

Thanks sillybanana182! The help would be greatly appreciated. For AK2010, we borrowed most of our panel room equipment from Anime Vegas, and ballroom equipment from Cosplay Zone Productions. We could definitely work something out with you and your boss about getting the company name in the booklets or some form of advertising for you. The best way to reach me right now is via email at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

As for the messaging system, it should be back online very shortly. The forum upgrade broke the old messaging system, but it looks like I have a fix for it. ;)

Yes! It's going to be so much fun!

Re: Narrowing in on a date... 08 Sep 2010 22:48 #8

I'm all for having it during the summer-my friend and I drove all the way from northern New Mexico, which would not have been possible during the school year. The 2010 con was a lot of fun. We're looking forward to attending the 2011 one^^

AC would be great, especially for those of us who haven't quite figured out that it's summer and wear heavy costumes. I hope that acquiring the equipment you need works out smoothly.

Sadly, I don't think they have AC equipped anywhere in that building (except maybe downstairs?). The reason for this, is that it never usually gets that hot. The heat during those days was a fluke and was actually record highs. The temp 2 weeks prior to that was about a 20 degree or more difference. We can only hope for normal weather patterns for next time ;)

Yes downstairs was nice and cool. There were some parts in the room sometimes came hot while running all video game systems.

In Flagstaff, most buildings DO NOT have AC. No apartments do, most businesses and the NAU campus.

Even when it did heat up, that was mostly in the rooms that had poor AC/none and were filled with tons of people. Meaning all that body heat in a small room really warmed things up XD

It is correct that the building, like most, does not have A/C, except for the basement. We purposely placed the gaming downstairs, considering the number of BTU's that gamers and gaming equipment produce.

Even though it was a freak heat wave that came into Flagstaff during AK2010, we will likely have the same type of weather during our new dates, if they are indeed in July. If there happens to be a rain storm that weekend, it will be much cooler. Otherwise, expect highs in the upper 80's or possibly low 90's. Keep in mind that Phoenix will be about 110 or so during that same time. :)

Our main concern is Peaks (vendor room), where the large windows let in a lot of sunlight and heat. The blinds were broken in 2010, which didn't help. After we opened the large doors, the heat wasn't as bad anymore. We will likely just use the large doors as the main entrance to the vendor room this time, and that will cut back on the heat a lot. Depending on the number of registrations we get this year, we may be able to afford bringing in portable A/C units (not portable evap coolers, but actual A/C units), which would pretty much eliminate the problem. At the very least, we'll see if we can get the blinds closed for 2011.

We are currently working out a basic schedule and deciding between a 2-day con (*gasp!*) and a 3-day con. We should have our date settled sometime within this next business week.

I could always figure out a way to help supply A/C units if the need comes in. I could also start up early bake sales and whatnot if needed. :/
